Credit cards are processed on-line in real time.
What if I receive a message indicating that my credit card was declined?
If there was an issue with your credit card transaction, you will receive an email indicating that the credit card was declined. This could be for a number of reasons:
- incorrectly entered credit card number
- incorrectly entered credit card expiration date
- incorrectly entered CVS code
- the daily spending limit is lower than the amount you are attempting to purchase
- the transaction has been flagged by the credit card merchant as possible fraudulent activity.
The fastest way to resolve this is to contact your credit card company and ask if a transaction from CMP Media Black Hat has appeared on the record. If yes, they will be able to tell you why the transaction is declined and help you resolve the issue. Once the issue is resolved, you may call or email us to re-try the credit card.
If the issue is a result of spending limit issues, you must contact the credit card company. Our merchant processing agreement does not allow the transaction amount to be split over several cards.
If the issue is a result of incorrectly entered information, call us with the correct information and we can see if the transaction can be successfully processed.
Once a successful credit card transaction has been made, we will mark your registration as paid and a receipt in the form of a pdf will be sent to you via email.
What if I sent in a check and my status is still "Payment Pending"?
If you are paying with a check, it may take up to 10 business days for the check to clear the bank. Once the funds have been deposited to our account, we will mark your registration as paid and a receipt in the form of a pdf will be sent to you via email.
Please be sure that your check has been cut to CMP Media-Black Hat and that you cite your order reference number on the check so that your registration may be properly credited. If the check is sent without any way to determine who the payment should be credited to, we cannot credit your account.

General Conference FAQs
What is the difference between the Briefings and Training?
The Training sessions are designed to be lecture-only or a combination of lecture and hands-on exercises. The sessions are intense and usually concentrate on a narrow range of topics. Each training class normally lasts 2 days.
The Briefings are made up of several tracks of presentations that runs concurrently over two days. Speakers present on a topic that generally lasts 75 minutes.
Which Training class is right for me?
Please read the class descriptions as carefully as possible. If you have questions, you may contact the conference administrator. Whichever class you select should meet the following criteria:
- Know what class you are signing up for. Researching the class prior to registering to make sure you understand what the class will be teaching you will save you time and money. It will ensure that you are interested in the topic.
- Know your skill level. Instructors have designed their classes and detailed their pre-requisites so that, hopefully, students' knowledge and skill levels will be similar so that the class will move along accordingly.
