Papers and presentations are now being accepted for the Black Hat USA 2011 Briefings.

GENERAL NOTES

  • I understand that I MAY NOT submit presentations if I am a third party such as a PR firm or Speaker Representative that wishes to submit materials on behalf of a potential speaker. I understand that only original authors of presentations may submit for the Call for Papers.
  • l understand that I will be notified of the status (acceptance or denial) no later than June 15, 2011.
  • I understand that full conference passes are given to those who actively participate as speakers on accepted presentations. The speakers must be listed as a part of the submitted Call for Papers applications PRIOR to the close of the CFP. These passes are non-transferable. Co-workers, PR persons, press, etc. who wish to attend the session or conference must register and pay the appropriate conference fees.
  • I understand that I may edit the submission application until the close of the Call for Papers.
  • I understand that Black Hat reserves the right to rescind an accepted submission up to 48 hours after the acceptance without reason.
  • I understand that Black Hat reserves the right to rescind an accepted submission at ANY TIME should the presentation be deemed to be a vendor sales pitch or if the content is found to be a work of plagiarism.
  • I understand that the Black Hat Review Board will have access to review my submitted application and materials.
  • I understand that submissions are reviewed as they come in and Acceptances and/or declines are conducted on a rolling basis.
  • I understand that if I am completing a submission via the Black Hat Call for Papers system that I will have read, understand and agree to the terms as detailed in this section and subsequent sections of this document.

GRANT OF COPYRIGHT USE

  • I warrant that the submitted work has not been previously published elsewhere, or if it has, that I have obtained permission for its publication by Black Hat and that I will promptly supply Black Hat with wording for crediting the original publication and copyright owner.
  • If I am selected for presentation, I hereby give Black Hat permission to duplicate, record and redistribute this presentation; including, but not limited to, the conference proceedings, conference CD, video, audio, hand outs(s) to the conference attendees for educational, on-line and all other purposes.

I have read the above and understand that by completing the Call for Papers application that I agree to the terms as detailed in the Grant of Copyright Use.

AGREEMENT TO TERMS OF SPEAKING REQUIREMENTS

If I am selected to speak at the Briefings, I understand that I must complete and fulfill the following requirements:

  • I will submit a completed White Paper for publication on the website and conference CD on Wednesday, July 13, 17:00 PST. I understand if I fail to submit a completed white paper by July 13, I may be replaced by an alternate presentation or, if allowed to present, will forfeit $250 of my honorarium.
  • I will submit a completed presentation for publication on the website and conference CD on Wednesday, July 27, 17:00 PST. I understand if I fail to submit a completed presentation by July 27, I will forfeit $250 of my honorarium.
  • If my submission included the release of a tool, I understand that I will submit a working version of the tool for publication on the website and conference CD on Wednesday, July 27, 17:00 PST. I understand if I fail to submit the tool by July 27, I will forfeit $250 of my honorarium.
  • I will include an appropriate slide (I may opt to use the Black Hat provided slide) at the beginning and end of the presentation that will include the following information: Please complete the Speaker Feedback Surveys. This will help speakers to improve and for Black Hat to make better decisions regarding content and presenters for future events.
  • I will include a detailed bibliography as either a separate document, for inclusion on the Black Hat website or conference cd, included within the presentation of all resources cited and/or used in my presentation.
  • I will be on hand and accessible to delegates during Black Hat social events including, but not limited to, luncheons, breaks and receptions. I will be scheduled to speak at a specific time and date but understand that I must be available to speak at ANY time on either of the two days of the Briefings should there be a schedule change.
  • If applicable, I will submit updated/revised/edited versions of the presentation, white paper, and a copy of the tool(s) and/or code(s), and a reference to all of the tool(s), law(s), Web sites and/or publications referenced to at the end of my talk and as described in this CFP submission for publication on the Black Hat website no later than Friday, August 5, 17:00 PST.
  • I will complete my presentation in the time allocated to me - not ending 15 minutes before or running 5 minutes over the time allocation. If I do, I will forfeit the appropriate calculated percentage of my honorarium. Example: My speaking slot is 75 minutes. I only speak for 35 minutes. I will forfeit 50% of my honorarium.
  • I understand that Black Hat will provide 1 LCD projector, 1 screen, wired LAN and wired microphone.
  • I understand that I am responsible for providing all other necessary equipment, including laptops and machines, to complete my presentation.
  • I understand that only persons listed as "speakers" who were part of the submission prior to the close of the CFP and who actively participate in giving the presentation will be given entry to the conference. Co-workers, PR persons, etc. who wish to attend the session must register and pay the appropriate conference fees.
  • I understand that if the presentation is deemed to be a vendor pitch then I will waive my honorarium.
  • I agree to not disparage the Black Hat brand for the duration of this contract (date of Letter of Acceptance to date of payment of honorarium). Any disparaging comments will result in forfeiture of payment including the honorarium and reimbursement for travel.
  • I understand and agree that I will not present the accepted submission at another conference or event, public or private, from July 1, 2011-August 5, 2011, Noon PST.

I have read the above and understand that by completing the Call for Papers application that I agree to the terms as detailed in the Agreement to Terms of Speaking Requirements.

AGREEMENT TO TERMS OF SPEAKING REMUNERATION

I understand that remuneration will be based on one of the following categories:

Category 1: Briefings Presenter (50 or 75 minute):

  • You have never previously presented at Black Hat before
  • Black Hat will pay for one presenter's coach class round-trip airfare and one hotel room for three nights at the Caesars Palace Las Vegas and a speaking honorarium of $500 USD.

Category 2: Briefings Presenter (50 or 75 minute):

  • You have spoken before at Black Hat (either as a Trainer, Briefings Presenter or Webcast Presenter) or you have been specifically invited to speak by the Event Director
  • Black Hat will pay for one presenter's coach class round-trip airfare and one hotel room for three nights at the Caesars Palace Las Vegas and a speaking honorarium of $1000 USD.

Category 3: Turbo Talk Presenter

  • Turbo Talk - 20 minute presentations.
  • Speakers selected for this track are not reimbursed for hotel and travel. Nor will they receive an honorarium.
  • Gratis entry is granted to the primary speaker only.

Category 4: Workshop Presenter

  • If you are presenting in a 150 minute session, you will earn $2000
  • If you are presenting in a 225 minute session, you will earn $3000
  • I understand that regardless of the length of session that I will observe the breaks as specified on the conference schedule.
  • I understand that if I am a Workshop Presenter, I am exempt from providing a white paper
  • I understand that if I am a Workshop Presenter, and am presenting on a tool set that I will provide the delegates with appropriate materials. Or provide Black Hat with a set to make an appropriate number of materials.

Category 5: Breakout Session Organizer/Presenter:

  • Breakout Session Presenters/Organizers will not be reimbursed for hotel or travel. Nor will they receive an honorarium.
  • Gratis entry is granted to the primary speaker/organizer of the session. All other participants must be paid Briefings registrants.

Category 6: Panel Participants

  • Speakers who are asked to participate in a panel but who also present on a separate topic will not be paid an additional honorarium.
  • Panel organizer (the person who submitted the application in the Call for Papers) will be considered either as a Category 1 or Category 2 presenter depending on status.
  • All actively participating panel participants who were listed in the application at the time of the close of the CFP will receive gratis entry to the Black Hat Briefings. These registrations are non-transferable.

Category 7: Sponsor Employed Presenters

  • If you work for a company that is also an official Black Hat sponsor, and are listing them as your employer in your biography, we are unable to offer any compensation for travel, accommodations or honorarium.
  • If you are working for a company that is also an official Black Hat sponsor, and are NOT listing them as your employer in your biography, then you may qualify for an honorarium.

Remuneration:

  • I understand that honorarium and travel reimbursements will be made at the same time, net 45 after the last day of the conference. If I fail to provide my travel receipts by Friday, August 5, 17:00 PST.
  • I forfeit any claims for reimbursement.
  • I understand that only a single payment will be made per presentation and that payment will be made to the primary presenter (the person who submitted the original application) and that hotel and airfare will also be made for the primary presenter only. Co-presenters will be fiscally and logistically responsible for their own travel and lodging arrangements.
  • I understand that payment will be made via check for persons residing in the US. Checks will be issued from UBM Ð United Business Media.
  • I understand that payment will be made via bank wire for persons residing outside of the United States and that it is my responsibility to provide accurate bank details and that any transaction fees billed to me by my bank will be borne by myself. I will not seek reimbursement from Black Hat to cover any banking fees. Bank wire transactions will be reflected as UBM- United Business Media.
  • I understand that if I choose to book my own air travel and wish to be reimbursed the following terms apply:
    • I will be limited to coach class fares
    • There is a cap of $1000 USD on round itineraries
    • There is a cap of $500 USD on one-way itineraries
    • Itinerary must be round trip with arrival to Las Vegas for the event
    • Itinerary must be booked no later than July 8.
    • I will provide a valid receipt in the form of a travel agency issued air itinerary and/or ticket receipt with the airfare and itinerary with date of purchase printed on it.
  • I understand that Black Hat uses American Express Corporate Travel services for booking airfare. If I choose to have Black Hat book my air travel, that they will make a best effort to book based on my preferred itinerary however the itinerary may not be available via the Black Hat corporate travel department. I can choose to either book the fare myself (based on the guidelines regarding booking my own air travel) or will agree to an alternate itinerary as provided by Black Hat.
  • I understand that if I choose to travel by automobile to the conference, I will receive $0.50 per mile, round-trip, as reimbursement. Mapquest miles from my home address to Caesars Palace based on zip code will be used to determine calculation. Tolls will be reimbursed provided a receipt is submitted. There is no reimbursement for gas, parking or speeding tickets or any other fees.
  • If I travel by rail or bus I will be reimbursed for the cost of the ticket price.
  • I understand that I will only be reimbursed for one form of travel to the conference; that I will be reimbursed for either rail, bus or air travel. I understand that I will not be reimbursed for travel time.
  • I understand will not receive reimbursement for luggage fees, transportation to and from the travel terminal(s) to the hotel/conference venue or travel from my home/office to the travel terminal(s), or any additional expenses I may incur. I understand that I will not be reimbursed for parking, taxi or shuttle services surrounding the event.
  • I understand that Black Hat will pay for one hotel room for three nights at the official venue hotel, which will be limited to one day before and one day after the event.
  • If I am booking my own travel, I will provide Black Hat with the dates of my arrival and departure no later than July 8. If I fail to provide that information by July 8, I will make my own lodging and will not seek reimbursement from Black Hat.
  • I understand that I will be required to provide the hotel with a valid credit card on check in to secure the room and any and all additional costs incurred by me (including but not limited to room service, phone line usage, room internet access, movies, etc.) will not be reimbursed by Black Hat.
  • I understand that Black Hat will not reimburse for meals or provide a per diem for meals.
  • I understand that tax form 1099 will be issued from UBM, United Business Media to the persons who have been paid for speaking.
  • I understand that I must submit the following items no later than Friday, August 5, 17:00 PST or I forfeit any claim to any amount owed:
    • Signed Speaker Agreement
    • Completed W9 or W8
    • Receipts for self booked travel (if applicable)
    • Presentation slide deck
    • White Paper
    • Tools/Code (if applicable)
  • I understand that the person listed as the primary speaker will be required to complete a W9 form in order to be paid.
  • Non-US citizens must complete a W8 form and may be paid via wire transfer.
  • Only one payment for both the honorarium and airfare will be made per presentation. I understand that Black Hat will not split the payment of the honorarium or expenses amongst multiple speakers. I understand that the purchaser of the airfare ticket must be the same as the person to be reimbursed.
  • Payment will be made net 45 from the receipt of the Black Hat required paperwork and presentation materials (W9/W8, receipts and payment/wire information). This is not negotiable.
  • I understand that the name and address on the W9 or wire transfer is where the payment will be sent. I understand that if I fail to inform Black Hat of any changes to my address or wire information as provided to them by August 5 that it may result in a delay of up to 45 days in my receiving payment from the date that I inform Black Hat of my change of address.
  • I will reimburse Black Hat for airfare should Black Hat purchase non-refundable airfare on my behalf and I am unable to attend for any reason.
  • I agree to not disparage the Black Hat brand for the duration of this contract (date of Letter of Acceptance to date of payment of honorarium). Any disparaging comments will result in forfeiture of payment including the honorarium and reimbursement for travel.
