Richard Macfarlane
Rich Macfarlane is an Associate Professor in the School of Computing at Edinburgh Napier University. He has been working in the areas of cyber security and digital forensics since 2009. Rich’s research focuses on Offensive Network Security, Ransomware, Digital Forensic Triage, and Online Teaching and E-learning for cyber security. His digital forensic research has included techniques for triage, which led to the establishment of the groundbreaking forensic spin-out company, Cyacomb.
Rich also collaborates with law enforcement and industry through the Cyber Academy, which he co-founded with Prof. Bill Buchanan. He is heavily involved with the wider cyber security community in Scotland, working with schools to support cyber security engagement and education. Additionally, he played a key role in starting the Cyber Scotland Connect (@SecScotland) community organization, where he currently serves as a moderator. Rich is also an active member of the NCSC educational community group, which comprises course and research lab leaders from NCSC-accredited institutions.
