Q1. Now that your company's four year legal dispute with Apple is behind you, what can customers expect to see from Corellium going forward? What are some of your plans for 2024 and beyond?

We never let Apple hold us back. Customers can expect to see the same relentless pursuit of innovation and commitment to customer satisfaction that we’ve consistently delivered since our founding. We’ve been working on a number of new product lines and partnerships, from forensics capabilities to malware detection to automated application security testing, and we’re incredibly excited to share these with our customers this year.

Q2. Why is virtualization technology such as Corellium's so important in the fight against mobile malware threats? What does virtualization allow researchers to do that traditional approaches do not allow?

Virtual machines have always been a critical tool for malware research, because they offer a safe “sandboxed” place to detonate and analyze malware. VMs not only help prevent the malware from infecting your actual device, but they also provide more control and insight, enabling you to manipulate the environment in ways you can’t ordinarily do on a physical machine. However, there haven’t historically been virtual machines for mobile devices, which generally limited malware research to static analysis. Corellium brings the power of virtualization to mobile, providing sandboxed virtual machines for safe, dynamic malware analysis. The virtual environment also enables us to provide sophisticated tools for unprecedented introspection and detection capabilities.

Q3. What was Corellium's main focus at Black Hat Europe 2023? What did you want customers and other organizations to take away from your company's participation at the event?

We wanted attendees to leave with a better understanding of just how broad a platform Corellium really is. While mobile security research is where we got our start, we’re so much more than that today, with solutions for everyone from large enterprises looking to establish mobile DevSecOps to students and hobbyists tinkering with Raspberry Pis. We’ve expanded not only into the realm of IoT and Automotive, but also into new solution spaces like MAST, malware, and forensics. Our goal at Black Hat Europe 2023 was to show attendees that if they work on mobile, IoT, or Automotive devices, they should be leveraging Corellium.
