Black Hat Trainings participants will be issued a digital Certificate of Completion, along with a digital badge. Certificates and badges are sent to the email address associated with the attendee registration. Certificates will not be issued to attendees not physically present at their registered Training course.

Exam Overview
Location:
- Black Hat Asia 2026: On-site, last 2 hours of the course
- Black Hat USA 2026: On-site, Wednesday, 7:00 AM - 8:30 AM.
Duration: 60 to 120 minutes
Format: Capture the flag, practical, scenario-based problem-solving or project-based evaluations.

Certification FAQs for Delegates

Who can take it?

Anyone who has registered for a Black Hat Training.

What is the exam format?

Candidates solve a series of isolated lab challenges (flags) within a fixed window. Each solved flag awards points that determine pass/fail.

What topics are covered?

Exam contents align with the training.

Are team attempts allowed?

No, all tests should be completed independently.

How is the exam scored?

Each flag has a point value based on difficulty/impact. Final score = sum of points earned. Typical passing threshold 60% of available points; higher cutoffs may earn merit distinctions.

How do I register?

Exams are available as an add on for all eligible trainings.

What happens if I violate the exam rules?

Violations can result in immediate disqualification.

Can I retake the exam if I fail?

Retakes are not offered at this time.

How long is the certification valid?

All Black Hat exam certificates are valid for three (3) years from the date of issuance.

If you did not receive the certificate

Please email certificates@blackhat.com with the subject line "Exam certificate missing". Please provide the email address you registered the course with.

Why does the exam expire after 3 years?

The cybersecurity industry evolves rapidly with new threats, technologies, and methodologies emerging continuously. To ensure certificate holders maintain current and relevant expertise, periodic knowledge refresh is essential.

Certificate of Completion & Badges

Black Hat issues all Training Certificates of Completion in digital format. Certificates of completion are exclusively available to Black Hat Training attendees. Black Hat Trainings participants will be issued a digital Certificate of Completion, along with a digital badge.
